Summer Research Program Update
It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the MSU St. Andrews Summer Research program set to take place June-August 2021.
Program organizers have grappled over the decision to forgo the program for 2021, and two overriding concerns have caused the decision at this time.
First, due to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, all MSU youth programs, as defined by the MSU Youth Programs policy, are advised to not occur in person on the MSU campus, at satellite MSU venues, or off-campus throughout the remainder of 2021.
Second, along with the responsibility we feel towards the safety of both our student researchers and scientists, is the need to uphold the integrity of the program. The in-person lab work is the component that makes the St. Andrews program stand out. With the inability to hold in-person lab work and interact with scientists and programmers again this summer, organizers have decided to pause the program until circumstances improve.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We plan to continue to offer non-research-related STEM programming virtually this summer, including Family Astronomy Nights, teacher and student workshops, and the middle school summer camp.
We are thankful for the continued support of our local sponsors, the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation, and The Dow Chemical Company Foundation.
